Women's Buyer

The Women’s Merchant will be responsible for creating an appealing, progressive and forward-looking assortment while delivering the sales and profit plan for the women’s division through the precise execution of a well-conceived merchandise strategy. Our ideal candidate is talented, experienced and entrepreneurial and will act as the “owner” for his or her categories. He/she must have a thorough understanding of our space in the industry and an awareness of relevant global trends, vendors and markets. We’re looking for someone with proven analytical capabilities and project management skills, extreme attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task.

Responsibilities:

  • Shop the competition regularly for trends and product opportunities
  • Identify and execute key item strategies
  • Partner with Fashion Director during and post Market to ensure brand assortment and item level buys support seasonal merchandise promotion stories, editorial and content plan
  • Ensure visual and web merchandising strategy supports product initiative
  • Maintain daily priorities, performance and work product of direct reports
  • Build a comprehensive understanding of the market and competitors
  • Identify new suppliers and bring to market before competition
  • Negotiate price, delivery, exclusivity and terms with vendors
  • Build an assortment that is balanced and brand appropriate
  • Bring and build relationships within the market that provide “first” opportunities and differentiated product
  • Analyze weekly and monthly sales, stock and on-order with the goal of optimizing sales and minimizing markdowns
  • Manage the financial elements of the business; OTB, IMU, MD’s
  • Manage the timely receipt of product and placement of orders
  • Work with vendors to develop exclusive product and special makeups
  • Develop collaborative relationships with internal colleagues
  • Contribute to marketing efforts by presenting concepts and merchandise stories that promote product assortment and drive volume
  • Manage and maintain productive day-to-day vendor relationships with integrity
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales, improve margins, optimize inventories, and decrease markdowns
  • Communicate the selling priorities for the store and online merchandising teams
  • Coach and mentor team to become exceptional curators of product, editors of assortments and business managers
  • Foreign and domestic travel required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of buying experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Expertise in retail math
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and accurate
  • Strong market awareness exhibited through knowledge of relevant brands and reference points
  • Ability to complete general analysis to support recommendations and decisions
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative, assertive and solution-oriented when faced with obstacles
  • Solid planning skills with experience managing an open-to-buy
  • Ability to build an assortment that is brand appropriate and balanced
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience maintaining vendor relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion or Business
  • 5+ years of progressive women’s apparel plus accessories buying experience
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically
  • Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Experience with e-commerce and a fast-paced environment
